Parallel Playtime
Free + introvert-friendly
weekly Zoom sessions
to help you show up to your practice
❋ Practice music, writing, or something else entirely
Use this time for whatever personally nourishing practice you would like a gentle nudge to actually do.
Play an instrument, write a poem, draw a cartoon, sew a quilt, meditate, practice reading tarot, read a difficult but rewarding novel, work through an online course you bought but somehow never got around to… it’s all welcome!
❋ Gentle accountability
& low-stakes community
You don’t need a boot camp instructor to “make” you practice. (And I’m guessing you don’t actually want that, either).
You just need to surround yourself with other people who normalize showing up to your practice, and staying focused while you’re doing it.
I will also offer an optional prompt each session, to help you decide what to focus on (if you don’t already have a plan).
❋ Camera on? Camera off? It’s up to you
Leave your camera on, if it makes you feel the good kind of seen, or if the visual accountability will help you focus.
Turn it off if feeling watched feels distracting.
Unkempt hair and messy backdrops warmly welcome. Encouraged, even!
❋ Mostly quiet time to focus on your practice
We’ve all experienced “work parties” that were more party than work. This is not that.
I will start each session with a brief welcome and an optional prompt to direct your day’s practice session in case you could use the inspiration.
95% of our time together will be spent on mute, working on our individual projects or practices.

Sometimes I can host a bonus session outside of conventional workday hours. Make sure you’re on the invite list, so you’ll know when that happens.
FAQ
-
Yes, it’s free. There’s no catch.
Why am I doing it? Because we need it. You and I both.
There’s so much in the world right now fighting to colonize our attention, our ability to hope or play or feel for ourselves at all. This is one way to help ourselves and one another practice remaining human.
Also, I miss the days when showing up in online creative community didn’t mean sitting through surprise sales presentations… or having your data silently mined by social media companies.
When you sign up for the invite list, you will be added to my general email list, and sometimes you’ll hear about my paid offerings and my music that way. (I don’t email very often, and when I do, I work to make sure it’s worth reading.)
But I will never market to you during Parallel Playtime. This is a space for us to be peer artists/makers/humans, regardless of your interest (or lack of interest) in the things I sell or the music I make.
-
As this is a peer support session, not a teaching space, I won’t be available to answer questions about music or anything else related to the content of your practice.
Logistical questions related to the Zoom session are fine, although I am assuming you have basic Zoom skills and my availability for tech support will be limited, given that I, too, will be focused on my own creative practice.
-
Nope. This isn’t a feedback group, nor is it an open mic. This is just a space to make the work.
-
If there’s something you want to practice or study, and you could use quiet companionship and/or a prompt to help you decide what to focus for a given practice session, then: yes.
My one suggestion: let the activity you bring to Parallel Playtime be one that isn’t a “to-do list” item related to work or household chores. You will probably get the most from this time if you use it to support something you know will make you feel better, but that sometimes feels hard to prioritize over work or rest.
-
That’s fine. Come when it works for you.
-
You can sign off whenever you need to. If you arrive late, you may be in the waiting room for awhile until I look up from whatever I’m working on and let you in. Start working anyway!
-
Sign up with your email address, using the big orange button below. Once you have confirmed your email subscription, you’ll receive an email with the Zoom link.
If you’re not already on my general email list, you’ll be added to that automatically. I am careful to send high-quality emails worth reading, and not too many of them… but if you ever want to unsubscribe, you’ll be able to.

No. This isn’t a class or a webinar. This is all of us holding collective space for our work; your presence in real time is your gift to the group.
(Also, it would be a very boring recording.)
