You’ll hear that he’s using a lot more ornamentation, double stops, etc. than were in the basic version I taught you today.
Morris was a well-known and successful contest player, but this recording must not have been at a contest—he’s chosen a luxurious slow tempo that would never fit with two other songs into a four-minute round! It’s rare to hear a waltz played this slow in general, actually, as this would also be too slow for dancers.
But it’s such a beautiful melody… why wouldn’t he show that off with this spacious tempo in a stage performance? :)
